The first Dublin Climate Action Week (DCAW) is due to take place from Monday, 13 September to Sunday, 19 September 2021.
Keen to Be Green at Rush Community Centre
Rush Community Centre is participating in Keen to Be Green, an initiative supported by FCC that aims towards sustainable waste prevention and the improvement of our wider community and environment.
As part of DCAW, Fingal County Council (FCC) are hosting the following two composting events (Composting Made Easy) on Saturday, 18 September.
Hosted by Craig Benton (aka Dr Compost), the events will be held at the Millennium Park, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 at 10am and the Bayside Community Association Community Garden in Bayside at 3pm.
The hour-and-a-half workshops cover the biology and essentials of composting, including what can and should not be composted; explanations of the four systems that can be used for composting food scraps and/or garden trimmings, such as simple compost bins, turning systems, mulching and wormeries; and finishes with how to troubleshoot common problems and how to use compost around the home.
A question-and-answers session will follow each workshop.
For further information, including registration details, please see the Eventbrite links above.
Rediscovery Centre paint
The Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun collects quality unused paint from recycling centres and retreats and repackages it for various projects.
FCC’s Environment, Climate Action and Active Travel Department has subsidised some of this paint and has made it available for Fingal communities.
Email email@example.com with details (e.g. interior or exterior, volume needed and colour). Delivery is included.
The Rediscovery Centre also repairs bicycles handed in at Fingal recycling centres. The Environment, Climate Action and Active Travel Department have also subsidised this project, making a number of high-quality bikes available for community centres, community groups, voluntary organisations, schools and individuals.
Conscious Cup Campaign
The Conscious Cup Campaign is a non-profit organisation that aims to reduce (and eventually eliminate) single-use cups in the café and food-to-go sector in Ireland by encouraging cafes and other outlets to incentivise customers to bring their own.
An online event, hosted by Sorcha Kavanagh, will be held on Thursday, 16 September at 7pm. More information and registration details are available here at Eventbrite.
